Rōia Kahika / Senior Community Lawyer

Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā!  Are you an experienced lawyer looking for meaningful work that will fulfil you and make a real difference to the lives of others? If so then read on.

Community Law Wellington and Hutt Valley is a registered charity providing free legal advice, information and education to meet unmet legal needs in the Wellington and Hutt Valley communities. We are also the provider of restorative justice services to the wider Wellington region.

We need someone to share the leadership of our team of lawyers across both our Hutt Valley and Wellington offices.

You need to be driven and passionate about meeting unmet legal need. Sharp legal skills are a given as you will be working with our other Senior Lawyers, leading a team of up to 5 lawyers of varying levels of experience, and supporting the legal help given by hundreds of volunteers.

You also need to have a strong drive to see us succeed on our bicultural journey and work with the General Manager and the other senior lawyers and managers to help make this happen.

You need to foster the passion of others to contribute to social change, and to work in a collaborative way that supports and develops our legal staff. You need to inspire confidence in others and be prepared to lead by example. You need to be willing to get your hands dirty to get things done, and to bring everyone else along for the ride.

You will have varied legal experience and you must at least meet the requirements to apply to practice on your own account as we can sponsor you through his process if required.

This is a job for no ordinary lawyer – it will be challenging and exciting and if you hear this role calling your name we encourage you to apply.

We celebrate diversity and we would welcome applications from people interested in job-sharing. Please let us know in your application if you are seeking part time work.
