Student Rights Service (formerly the Parents Legal Information Line) is a national, free phone service for parents and students wanting information and assistance on issues for children and young people at school. SRS offers parents, caregivers and students, information and assistance on a wide range of issues involving children, young people and the school system:
- Rights to education
- Enrolments/zoning
- Fees
- School rules/discipline
- Uniforms
- Truancy
- Bullying
- Students with disabilities
- Criminal matters at school
- Stand downs/Suspensions/Exclusions/Expulsions
- Privacy
- Making a complaint
Ring 0800 499 488 and leave a message on the answering machine. A volunteer will call you back to discuss problems at school and:
- Give legal information about students’ and parents’ rights and obligations
- Explore ways of resolving disputes
- Assist by contacting the school on behalf of parents or students
- Connect students and parents with their local advocacy services
