There are specialist housing advice and advocacy services for people living in Te Awa Kairangi / Lower Hutt and Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Wellington.
In Te Awa Kairangi, you can drop-in and speak to a lawyer on Thursdays between 12-2pm.
In Te Whanganui-a-Tara, you can drop-in and speak to a lawyer on Mondays between 5.30pm and 7pm.

Our specialist rōia (lawyers) can help with legal problems related to housing. The service is aimed at supporting whānau to prevent homelessness. It provides free legal advice on matters such as:
- Evictions
- Rent increases
- Tenancy damage/repairs, applications to the Tenancy Tribunal
- Disputes with landlords and Kāinga Ora
- MSD social and emergency housing and applications
- New legal changes due to Covid 19.
This service does not provide advice to landlords or property managers and does not extend to advice around buying property or commercial leases.
The Lower Hutt service was launched with thanks to the Hutt City Council in 2020.
While we have had a session for tenancy in Wellington for few years, we now have a permanent lawyer thanks to the Wellington City Council who is available for ongoing legal advice.
